InterX Cited in Danny Cipriani Ankle Recovery
In May 2008, the rugby world watched in dismay as Wasps and England star Danny Cipriani suffered a horrific fracture and dislocation of his right ankle in a game against
Bath. As he was stretchered off the pitch and the replay of the injury was watched over and over again, fans and coaches agreed it would be a long road to recovery for Danny.
However, just four months and 13 days later, Danny started as fly half in the game against Bath six weeks ahead of schedule. "Quite incredible" is how one executive at Wasps described Danny's early comeback. His rehabilitation program took dedication and the support and careful management of his recovery by the Wasps medical team. This program included InterX, the latest in advanced rehabilitation technology used by sports professionals around the world.
The clinically proven effects of InterX treatment in reducing pain and inflammation help to facilitate a quicker return to active rehabilitation and training. "I used my InterX device pretty much from day one," said Danny. "My number one priority was to get back in the game as soon as possible and it helped me to do exactly that."
This is not the first time that InterX has played its part in the game. In the 2007 World Cup, England Senior Physio Phil Pask spoke of how treatment with InterX, together with other manual therapy techniques, helped to speed up Jason Robinson's recovery from a grade 2 hamstring tear, enabling him to play in the World Cup Quarter Final just 23 days after his injury.
At the Wasps home ground, the players are familiar with InterX. "We are committed to providing our guys with the very best in rehabilitation," says Prav Methema, Wasps Physio. "InterX is an important part of that program and has provided excellent results across a range of injuries. If we can get players in less pain and with less inflammation then their active rehabilitation will be faster and more effective. InterX gives us those options."
Giving Professional Rugby a Helping Hand
Plano, Texas, USA – Neuro Resource Group (NRG), the manufacturer of InterX® products, announced that InterX products were included in the rehabilitation programs of several England rugby players in the Rugby World Cup Tournament in 2007.
Jason Robinson received InterX Therapy as part of his rehabilitation program following a hamstring injury during England’s first game against South Africa in the World Cup tournament. Phil Pask, the Senior Physio for the England team for the last three Rugby World Cups, explains how he implemented InterX into his treatment protocol.
“I used InterX Therapy as part of our intensive rehabilitation program to see if we could get Jason back into the tournament. With a confirmed grade two hamstring tear, I expected that pain and inflammation would restrict the intensity of and progression through the rehabilitation process. However, using InterX, I was able to significantly reduce Jason’s nociceptive pain following the injury and facilitate an intensive manual therapy and exercise rehabilitation protocol which definitely optimized his recovery time. This injury would normally have a 4-6 week prognosis, but Jason was back in full training after three weeks which allowed him to play in the Quarter Final game against Australia – and ultimately England to progress through to the final”.
Jason Robinson went on to play in the Semi-Final against France where he collected his 50th cap and in the Final against South Africa.
"I have used the InterX for a number of years now and find it invaluable in accelerating an athlete’s return from injury. Regular use of the InterX facilitates early pain free mobilisation and in turn the rapid restoration of athletic function. It has become an integral part of my management of a range of sporting injuries." Phil Glasgow
"Since I have been using InterX I have found that it has a significant effect in reducing the athlete’s pain, thus allowing us to progress the rehabilitative process sooner than normal and therefore facilitate a quicker return to play. I have found it effective during rehab exercise thereby accelerating the process even further." Anthony Coole
"I have been using a number of InterX units for 3 years now and have been very impressed with the results. Its application is widespread both in the treatment of acute and chronic sports injuries. I have found that using InterX in conjunction with other treatment methods has proven to reduce pain, help improve range of movement and subsequently accelerate the return to sport. Players are given units to use in between physio treatments with great success." Louis o Connor
"We regularly use InterX with our Philadelphia 76ers. I have been amazed at how the treatments not only manage the pain, but increase function too." Nicholas A. DiNubile - Orthopedic Surgeon
"I have been using InterX for over a year and have been very impressed with the results. I hope that the device becomes more widely available and that other therapists and doctors benefit from using InterX as an aid in the management of chronic musculoskeletal pain." Dr. Steve Motto - Sports and Musculoskeletal Physician, London Bridge Hospital, London
"Our patients have found InterX to be a well accepted, efficacious and safe pain management procedure." Dr. Declan O'Keefe - Consultant Anesthetist, St Vincent's Hospital, Dublin, Ireland
"Pain and Injury are a constant concern for any rugby player and using InterX, played a critical part in my ability to perform in the 2007 World Cup." Andy Gomersall - Professional Rugby Player
"The InterX 5000 was an important part of the treatment that ensured I was able to play in the All Ireland Final for Tyrone." Enda McGinley - 3 time All Ireland Winner
